Take the case off first

Always remove the case from the phone before cleaning it, and let it dry completely before putting it back on. Trapped moisture is the most common cause of marks.

Silicone and clear cases

Warm water and a little washing-up liquid, applied with a soft cloth or an old toothbrush for the corners. Rinse and air dry. Avoid bleach and solvents, which can cloud or soften the plastic.

PU leather folios

Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not soak them, and keep them away from radiators - heat is what makes the surface crack.

Heavy duty cases

Separate the inner and outer layers if they come apart, and clean the grit out from between them. That trapped grit is usually what scratches the back of the phone.
